What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the art and science of using essential oils, the aromatic extracts of plants and flowers, for promoting health and well being. Each essential oil has a unique chemical composition. By learning about the properties of many oils, you can use them to provide and enhance pleasurable experience and attain feeling so well being.

The action of an essential oil on the body is holistic, combing both physical and mental aspects. Unlike most conventional medicines, essential oils work together with all parts of the body, to complement natural healing and growth process, and restoring emotional and spiritual balance.

Essential oils are natural and safe method of maintaining health in body and spirit. They are flexible in their applications and pleasant to use. You can easily incorporate them into many of your daily activities such as a bath, a massage or skin.

What are Essential oils?
Essential oils are the concentrated extracts of plants and flowers, the life force of the plant. They can be found in the flowers, leaves, resins, seeds roots and grasses of a plant.
For many oils, it takes a great deal of raw plant material to produce a small amount of essential oil. The aromatic content in the rose is so minute that it takes sixty thousand petals to produce one ounce of rose oil. In some plants such as the common orange, the oil is easily collected from the peel. For this reason, out essential oils are priced individually according to the method of extraction an the raw materials required.

Relaxing Oils
Lavender, bergamot, cedarwood, chamomile, rose, mandarin, marjoram, neroli, petitgrain

Stimulating Oils
Cinnamon, eucalyptus, ginger, lemon, peppermint, rosemary, spearmint

Clarifying oils
Cajeput, eucalyptus, frankincense, peppermint, rosemary

Cleansings oils
Bergamot, juniper berry, eucalyptus, pine, lavender tea tree

Restorative Oils
Cypress, geranium, grapefruit, juniper berry, lemon, lime, orange

Calming Oils
Roman chamomile, frankincense, geranium, lavender, patchouli, rose

Balancing Oils
Lavender, chamomile, marjoram, geranium, clary sage


METHODS OF APPLICATION
MASSAGE

Massage is one of the most beneficial methods of using essential oils because it combines the therapeutic aspects of touch with the potent restorative powers of essential oils. It is an especially beneficial way to relive stress and tension caused by anxiety.
Essential oils must be diluted in carrier oil. Add 6-10 drops of essential oils to 15-ml blend.

BATH
The ritual of bathing is the easiest, most therapeutic way of using essential oils in the home. A pleasurable blend of steam and hot water combines the benefits of inhalation with the powers of absorption through the skin. Bathing with essential oils provides an experience that is both cleansing for the skin and balancing for the emotions.

Blend a maximum of 10 drops of pure essential oil with one tablespoon of base oil.

One should avoid oils that are irritants to the skin such as citrus, peppermint.

INHALATION
Vapor inhalation is one of the quickest methods in which few drops of essential oil can enter the body. Inhalation is highly beneficial for helping respiratory ailments or sinus congestion. Oils such as eucalyptus, peppermint, Cajeput, frankincense may be used. You may also add a few drops on to tissue to comfort throughout the day. Add 3 to 5drops of essential oil to large bowl of hot water. Close your eyes and cover your head with a towel large enough to hang down around the bowl

Persons with asthma or epilepsy should avoid inhalation.

DIFFUSER
A diffuser is an indispensable tool in the art of Aromatherapy. By heating the oil, a diffuser effectively introduces the fragrance and beneficial properties of an essential oil to any environment. When essential oils are vaporized, their specific properties can have positive effects on the mind, body and spirit.
